TREKKING IN ANDRIGRITRA

Clear level paths which make hiking a great pleasure through untouched forests, paddy fields and remote villages to get contact with simple way of life practised by the inhabitants. The Zafimaniry people whose houses are still ornated with carved wooden balconies and shutters. Continuing southly visit of the National park of Ranomafana, Andringitra, and Isalo which over rocks and along edges of tumbling rivers, yellow grassy plains and ferny green canyons.

Day 1 ANTANANARIVO – AMBATOLAMPY – ANTSIRABE

Assistance during formalities and transfer to the hotel in Antananarivo for a DAY USE and Lunch.
Departure after lunch to ANTSIRABE. Typical landscape of the highland : vast fields of rice and wheat , charming laterite coloured villages. On the way , visit of a traditional workshop making pots with a rudimentary material.
Lunch at « Rendez-vous des Pêcheurs ».
Arrival at Antsirabe. Visit of the city and the surroundings and a semi-precious stone shop.
Dinner and night at the hotel.

Day 2 ANTSIRABE – AMBOSITRA
Departure to the lake Andraikiba. Here begins our walk to the volcanic region of Tritriva through rice-fields and charming villages, typical tombs of the highlands. Picnic lunch on the top of the mysterious lake. Emotional contact with children of the village who propose you hats that they do themselves. After a walk to the bottom of the crater, continuation by car to Ambositra through terrace rice-fields, typical Betsileo houses and eucalyptus trees.
Ambositra is the capital of wood carving: ebony, palissander.
We can visit a workshop where people show their exceptional ability.
Dinner and night at the hotel.

Day 3 AMBOSITRA - ANTOETRA - IFASINA - AMBOSITRA
Departure after breakfast by car to Antoetra.
We climb the tropical forest, the mountain range of Ivohibe and virgin ways which constitutes the high point of the trip. Picnic lunch on the way.
In the afternoon, back to Ambositra.
Dinner and night at hotel.

Day 4 AMBOSITRA – RANOMAFANA
Continuation to the South to visit the magnificent reserve of Ranomafana.
Exceptionally rich in flora and fauna within relatively easy reach. 26 species of mammals and 96 species of birds have been recorded in this area. Discovery of the Golden Bambou Lemur, one of the rarest of the island. Rare and protected orchids and ferns.
Full-board accommodation at the hotel.

Day 5 RANOMAFANA
Continuation of the visit of Ranomafana reserve.
Full-board accommodation at the hotel.

Day 6RANOMAFANA – ANDRINGITRA
Southwards to Andringitra. Visit of workshop of Antaimoro paper at Ambalavao. Possibility to visit vineyard during season. Lunch at Ambalavao.
Arrival at Andringitra in the end of the afternoon.
Dinner and night at the lodging.

Day 7 ANDRINGITRA
Departure after breakfast to visit of Andringitra National park, 31.160 ha area.
This park is situated in the mountain of Andringitra in the high and unique formation of granite and gneiss. The altutide change of 720 to 2.658 m at the Pic Boby, the highest top accessible in Madagascar.
15 species of lemurs and 30 species endemic variety of orchids have been counted in this area. Picnic lunch.
Back to the lodging in the end of the afternoon.
Accomodation on half-board.

Day 8 ANDRINGITRA – RANOHIRA
Departure after breakfast to RANOHIRA. Here is the beginning of the real South with these immenses areas of arid steppes and big herds of zebus. Lunch at IHOSY.
Arrival at Ranohira in the afternoon.
Dinner and night at the hotel.

Day 9 RANOHIRA
After breakfast, visit of the Isalo park, walk to the “Piscine Naturelle”.
Bathe and Picnic lunch. Back to hotel in the end of the afternoon.
Dinner and night.

Day 10 RANOHIRA - TULEAR
Continuation to the South passing by typical Mahafaly tombs and the spiny bush, characteristic of the South. Visit of the market of shells at TULEAR.
Lunch on the way. Visit of the Sarodrano's cave. Situated in the village of Saint-Augustin, former village of the pirate and slaves trade .
Arrival at MELODY BEACH Hotel in the end of the afternoon.
Dinner and night at the hotel.

Day 11 TULEAR
Stay at leisure. Possibility to visit the surroundings by foot or canoe.
Accomodation on half board at the hotel.

Day 12 TULEAR - ANTANANARIVO
Transfer to airport of Tuléar for Antananarivo' s flight.
Formalities assistance during international or local flight departure .
