White Water Rafting
Kenya- White Water Rafting

Kenya is a unique and diverse white water destination although not as well known as the Zambezi or Nile. There is always something for everyone whether you require a one day adrenalin fix on the Tana River, a scenic float filled with birdlife on the Ewaso Nyiro River, or a remote multi-day trip down the Athi River with its superb mix of grade2 to 5 rapids interspersed with scenic calm water where birds and animal life abound. The lead guides are all UK or US qualified as well as being members of the Kenya professional Safari Guides Association. Top quality equipment and comprehensive safety and first aid equipment is available with cameras and video equipment carried in water proof boxes.

1 Day – Tana River
3km of class 2 and 3 white-water followed by 6km of fast and exciting class 4 and 5 white-water. As an alternative we can offer a challenging 3-4 hour safari using car-boats over a distance of about 8 km to view the birdlife to be found on the river banks. Available daily at 0800 hrs – return by 1730 hrs. A barbecue lunch with beer and soft drinks is provided

. 1 Day – Mathioya River
The Mathioya is a narrow, low volume river but fast flowing with many rapids some technically class 4 and 5. It has a useable distance of about 22km with a 450 m descent. Available daily at 0800 hrs- return by 1730 hrs. Lunch and drinks will be carried on the boats.

Multi Day Trips – Athi River
Rafting is possible for the full 450 km of the river which will take you from Nairobi to the coast at Malindi. This normally take about 21 days but more frequently an 80 km section is used which covers the best of scenery with medium grade white-water rafting. This section borders Tsavo National Park and so wildlife is plenty with Giraffe, Buffalo and Elephant often seen. In between the scenic sections are a dozen or so sets of rapids ranging from class 2 to 4

NB: The lower age limit is 14, with parental consent. There is no upper limit as it is dependent on fitness and health. With the exception of the Mathioya River no previous rafting experience is necessary. Accommodation will be in small 2 man tents with sleeping bags provided.

Three meals per day are provided on safari; English breakfast, cold lunch and 5 course dinner with starter, soup, barbecued main meal with vegetable, fruits and coffee. All food is cooked over a wood fire by the guides.
